The administration process for booking a maternity package is generally straightforward. Once you have completed a tour and selected your package, the hospital will walk you through any paperwork and confirm your booking.
At Gleneagles Hospital, they have 29 specialists in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology who can care for you and your baby from pregnancy, labor delivery, to the postdelivery period.
You may consider seeking recommendations from friends and family, reading online reviews, or finding out which OB-GYNs are in your insurance network.
Keep in mind that you can change your decision at any point in your pregnancy.
During the maternity tour, you will be taken around the hospital to view the maternity wards and the facilities you will enjoy. The tour also gives you an opportunity to ask questions about the amenities and services of the hospital.
You are encouraged to bring the following items upon admission:
It is advisable to pack your bag to be ready for admission about 2 – 3 weeks before your baby’s estimated date of delivery (EDD).
Procedure
On the day of your admission, you should proceed to the admissions counter at the hospital lobby, level 2.
The hospital can confirm the availability of a room type only at the time of your admission. This is due to the uncertainty of discharges and emergency admissions in a hospital. However, if they are unable to provide you with the room of your choice at admission, they will make the transfer as soon as your preferred room type is available.
Meanwhile, pre-registration for admission is strongly encouraged as soon as you have decided to have your baby at Gleneagles Hospital. Pre-registration allows you to be admitted directly to the delivery suites when you arrive for the birth of your baby.
Pre-registration can be carried out at the Gleneagles Hospital admission counter. This service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Once you are ready to be discharged, the hospital staff will prepare your bill and documents. You will also be given discharge instructions about cleaning and caring for your stitches, food and nutrition, and caring for your baby, etc.
With the introduction of digital birth certificates from 29 May 2022, birth registrations will no longer be available at Gleneagles.
You may register the birth of your baby online within 42 days using the LifeSG app. Upon successful registration, you will be notified to download your child’s digital birth certificate via the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) website.
Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a caesarean delivery, your body needs time to heal. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks before most women feel mostly recovered, but it can take even longer for some women. Give yourself time to recover, eat a healthy diet, drink more fluids, and try to get as much rest as you can.
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breastfeeding for babies in the first 6 months of life. This means that aside from breastmilk, no foods or liquids, including water, should be given to the child.
Taking care of a newborn infant is no easy task. Newborns need plenty of care round-the-clock, from frequent feedings, burping, diaper changes and making sure they are safe and comfortable. Baby care may be overwhelming especially for first-time parents.
Remember to take it easy and care for yourself while taking care of your baby. As you become more familiar with your baby’s cues and needs, you will eventually develop a comfortable routine that works for you and your baby.
Confinement is the period where a mother recuperates from childbirth. This practice was intended to protect both the mother and the newborn infant from illness. This practice is common among Asians.
The Chinese, Malay and Indian communities have different practices related to the confinement period. These practices range from the prohibition of certain activities such as bathing and sexual activities and consuming particular types of food and beverages.
If you have questions and concerns about certain confinement practices, it is best to discuss this with your healthcare provider. Remember to put your health first. You should do what feels right for you and your body during this resting period.
If you wish to have your baby at Gleneagles Hospital and require assistance with the application for your permit, extension of visa or birth registration of your newborn, please call the Gleneagles Hospital patient assistance centre 24-hour helpline: +65 6575 7575.
