Patients scheduled for admission will be contacted to undergo COVID-19 swab 3 days before admission day.
Patients who are feeling unwell with flu-like symptoms, they are encouraged to reschedule their existing appointment by contacting +603- 2617 8844.
COVID-19 swab test is not mandatory for visitors, however, all visitors to the institute will be screened at entry points according to the restriction policy. Visitors must also fulfil the following criteria before allowing entry into the hospital:
- Fully vaccinated
- Above 18 years old
- Asymptomatic
Visitors must also adhere to the following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) while visiting to contain the spread of COVID-19:
- Always wear a face mask
- Wash your hand regularly with soap
- Practice physical distancing of at least 1 metre
- Avoid direct contact when greeting people

The National Heart Institute maintains a highly competent team of cardiologists, paediatric cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and support staff to handle emergencies and complicated cases. It offers a complete range of cardiovascular medicine services, including diagnostic, therapeutic, and cardiac surgeries for open heart, closed heart, thoracic, and transplants.
Patients will be directed to the admission counter for pre-admission registration and financial discussion once they receive notification from their consultant regarding admission dates and schedules.
Admission Journey:
- Arrive at Admission Counter
- Registration, Financial Clearance & Bed Assignment – Patients will undergo the registration process and financial clearance prior to bed assignment. Bed assignment is subject to availability on the day of admission and no booking is allowed.
- Identification Wristband – Patients will be given an identification wristband with name and National Heart Institute’s patient Medical Record Number (MRN) to be worn at all times during their stay.
- Blood Test (If required)
- Upon completion of registration, patients will be ushered to their wards.

Payment method
- Full self-paying patients are required to place a deposit upon admission. The institute receives payment by credit/debit card, cash, bank draft, telegraphic transfer, electronic funds transfer, and cheque.
- For the company/insurance guarantee letter, the final treatment cost is based on coverage, and payment will be made directly by the patients’ insurance company or their company guarantee letter.
The operating hours for both General and Specialist clinic are from Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Patients can contact Appointment Centre at 03-26178844; 8 am to 5 pm (Monday to Friday) to schedule an appointment.
The National Heart Institute has two referral methods:

- Normal clinic & Paediatric & Congenital Heart Centre – Patients are required to have referral letter from either Government / Private Hospital (Subject to Payor) or from General Physician / Cardiologist.
- Private Clinic – Patients can proceed to service counter with or without referral letter.
The outpatient flow is as follows:
- Arrival – Patients have to take a QMS number.
- Registration
- Blood Test (If required)
- Screening Room – If test is required, patients shall proceed to the designated area after screening.
- Waiting Area – Waiting to see the doctor.
- Doctor’s Consultation – Depending on the patients’ condition, they may have to make a reappointment or proceed to collect medication from the pharmacy or prepare to be admitted to the institute for further treatment.
